IT within the military/law enforcement field. I will be speaking on the Department of the Army as I see it, since the US Army employs me. Everyone who is affiliated with the Army, whether Military personnel or Civilian contractors, uses computers every day and is connected through the US Army's Network. All employees have access to government computers through that network, and we have many security policies, procedures, and yearly online trainings in place to prevent misuse of the network. Much like other professional businesses, the Army has contracts with Microsoft 365, giving us access to all the suites, as well as Adobe. On both the military and law enforcement side, I utilize all suites of M365 and Adobe. Each large Army unit has IT specialists who are subject-matter experts in all things technology-related and serve as a help desk.
Recently, the newly titled Department of War announced GenAI for all government employees to use for work and everyday tasks that require it. GenAI is currently running on Google's Gemini and will eventually also run through Grok and ChatGPT. GenAI is supposed to help us get admin paperwork done while using military lingo. The government had other AI products, such as CamoGPT, but it wasn't advertised to government employees as much as GenAI. As the world evolves and develops more AI technology, the Army will expand its tech alongside it, especially in drones and the Cyber world.
